Each of these suggestions can be used to earn extra credit 2nd, 3rd or 4th
quarter. You can only do each project once. Some projects may not be appropriate
until
certain material is covered in class. Use your best judgment as to whether
or not you are ready to take on an assignment. You can only do one
project per quarter. The project can earn between 1 and 2 extra
credit points. These are added directly to your quarter average. Extra credit
will not
be accepted if you are missing any assignments for the quarter.

Write and illustrate a children's story where you personify an atom or a molecule
and follow it through its travels. This atom/molecule should illustrate a
chemistry principle from this list:
1) Phase change (including solid, liquid and gas)
2) Bonding (atoms becoming molecules...illustrate the difference between covalent
and ionic)
3) Solubility (dissolve something and then recover it in it's original form)
4) Gas Laws (experience changes in pressure and temperature to result in different
volumes)
5) Types of reactions (take us through synthesis, decomposition, single and
double replacement)
*NOTE: do not use the same story I use in class
If you would like to cover a topic other than what's on this list Please see
me first. This project can be done more than once but the topic must be different
each time.

Write a Lab Safety song. It can be your own music or set to a common theme,
but the words must be yours. This song must be performed in class. This idea
can be applied to other topics but please see me first. This assignment can

includes readings on various issues that surround this topic. Pick on of
these topics and follow the following steps:
1. Print out the article
2. Read the article.
3. Highlight and annotate as needed throughout the article to help you find
the main idea and key concepts. Put notes in the margins in order to define
terms that you don't understand or need to clarify.
4. Write a one page (double spaced) summary and explanation of the article
making as many ties to what you have learned in class as possible.
