As the
world becomes more interdependent, sports become a way for the world to
communicate and become more unified. The Olympic Games allows countries
and sports from around the world to come together to compete. Not all
sports are included in the Olympic Movement. This Webquest will introduce
students to the variety of sports and their historical connection to the
world. |

You are a member of the US Olympic Committee. The International Olympic Committee has decided to reorganize the Olympic Games. All events must prove why they should be part of either the Summer or Winter Olympics. You and the other Olympic Committee members must convince the International Olympic Committee to include your sport. You will make a presentation justifying your sport's inclusion in the Olympic Games. In your presentation include the historical value of your sport, the importance of your sport to the global community, and the athletic skills your sport emphasizes. You may make a web site or power point presentation. |

The goal of this Web Quest is to have students research the historical significance of sports. Students will connect the sports to Olympic Movement and the historical evolution of sports. They will come away with a better understanding of the global connection of sport. Students will create a power point presentation or web page to convince the International Olympic Committee to include a particular sport to the Olympic Games. |
