The
Florida quarter was the 27th state quarter to be released by the U.S.
Mint. Florida became a state on March 03, 1845, and the Florida quarter
was the second one to be released in the year 2004. The design of the
quarter was chosen by Governor Jeb Bush. On the state quarter of Florida
you will see a Spanish sailing ship from the 16th century, an island
with palm trees, and a spaceship.
The
Spanish sailing ship is important because it reminds us of Ponce
de Leon,
Hernano
de Soto, and other Spanish explorers who explored
the New World. The island with the palm trees shows the shoreline of
Florida where a lot of people go to visit for vacations. The spaceship
represents the space technology found in Kennedy Space Center. You
will also see the words “Gateway to Discovery” on the quarter.
This is a symbol of exploration from the 16th century to modern days. |
