The
West Virginia quarter was the 35th state quarter to be released by
the U.S. Mint. West
Virginia became a state on June 25, 1863, and the West Virginia quarter
was the fifth one to be released in the year 2005. Bob Wise and the U.S.
Treasury chose the design of this quarter. 1,800 designs were submitted
and one of the five finalists was selected. On the state quarter of West
Virginia you will see the New River Gorge shown under the New River Gorge
Bridge. It is important in the state of West Virginia because of its natural
beauty and great engineering. The New River Gorge Bridge is the second
highest bridge in the United States. |
