The Alabama quarter was the 22nd  state quarter to be released by the U.S. Mint. Alabama became a state on December 14, 1819,and the Alabama quarter was the second one to be released in the year 2003. The governor chose the design of this quarter. On the state quarter of Alabama you will see Helen Keller sitting down and her name written in English and Braille. She is important in the state of Alabama because Helen Keller was blind and deaf, but she still learned how to read and write using Braille. She was able to go to collage and become a writer. You will also a banner that says “Spirit of Courage.”  These words are important in the state of Alabama because the spirit of courage celebrates Helen Keller. You will also see a camellia along the side. It is important in the state of Alabama because the camellia is the state flower of Alabama.
